Income Tax, National Insurance and VAT

Has a bailiff visited you to collect Income Tax or National Insurance arrears? This guide can help.

Not paying your tax can have serious consequences.  If you are unable to pay tax demands from HMRC take action straight away.  Speak to us, speak to HMRC and arrange a payment or payment schedule.

HMRC can use bailiffs to collect unpaid tax.  If the arrears are under £3000 HMRC can apply to the magistrates court.  HMRC can also apply to the county court to issue a CCJ (County Court Judgement) against you.

Note that estimated bills, even if they are wrong, are enforceable in the ways described above.  You will need to fill in a tax return to ensure your tax calculations are correct.
